We’re excited to announce that Brandon Dekker, M.S., DBIA, has been named our Executive Director of the West Region.
In this firmwide leadership role, Brandon will focus on advancing our strategic growth and design impact, both across the firm and with a specific emphasis on the West Region. He will support the continued success of our design teams in Irvine, Los Angeles and San Diego, California; Portland, Oregon; and Seattle, Washington.
Previously serving as Office Practice Leader for our Irvine and San Diego offices, Brandon is known for cultivating high-performing, people-first work cultures where teams thrive. In 2024, under his leadership, we were named the #1 Best Place to Work in both San Diego and Orange County by their respective Business Journals — a testament to the inclusive culture he fosters and the work his teams consistently deliver.
“Brandon has been an integral part of our firm for nearly two decades, consistently showing a deep commitment to design, our people and their success,” said Brad Lukanic, CannonDesign’s CEO. “That care also shows up in our projects and in the trust he and his teams have built with clients. He’s made a big impact in California, and I’m excited to see that ripple across the West.”
Brandon will continue to be a champion for design excellence, uncompromising technical quality and resilient, sustainable solutions. Recent and ongoing West Region projects reflecting this commitment include the Resnick Sustainability Center at Caltech, Hollywood Burbank Replacement Passenger Terminal, SPC Jesus S. Duran Eastside Library, UW Medicine’s Center for Behavioral Health and Learning, Hillsboro Hops Stadium and the long-range master plan for Riverside Health System, among others.
Testimonials
Brandon brings that same drive to project delivery, leading efforts to evolve how our firm and the broader industry embrace collaborative delivery methods like the progressive design-build model. A longtime advocate for this model, he served as president of the Design-Build Institute of America’s (DBIA) Western Pacific Region in 2022 and now contributes nationally as a member of the DBIA’s Legislative Committee. In 2023, he played a key role in the passage of California Senate Bill 706, landmark legislation that empowers cities, counties and special districts statewide to adopt Progressive Design-Build.
His industry leadership extends further. Brandon served as president of the Southern California chapter of the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) in 2021, currently chairs the CMAA Foundation board and has been a board member for the California Community College Facility Coalition (CCFC) since 2019, all reinforcing his commitment to improving how design better serves communities.
Brandon has a master’s degree in construction management from Drexel University’s College of Engineering and is a graduate of Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business Leadership in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Executive Program.
