We are thrilled to share that Fortune has named CannonDesign to its 2025 Change the World list.

The Fortune list recognizes companies addressing pressing social challenges and making a positive impact through their core business strategies. Our firm was specifically recognized for our commitment to advancing sustainable design solutions across every business sector we serve.

There were just 50 companies selected to this year's Fortune list, and we are proud to be the only design firm selected. Other honorees include Mastercard, Warby Parker, Costco, Deloitte and the National Women's Soccer League.

This honor adds to a growing list of recognition for our sustainable design leadership, including TIME Magazine calling us "The Design Firm Making Net-Zero Buildings a Reality" and Metropolis recognizing us as its 2024 Planet Positive Firm of the Year. Here are some of the dynamic projects making such recognition possible:

  • We have designed breakthrough sustainable healthcare solutions, including California's first-ever net-zero mental health campus in San Mateo County. Elsewhere, the LEED-Gold Northwestern Medicine Old Irving Park in Chicago sets new standards around green-roof integration, bird-friendly design and energy efficiency.
  • Education buildings like the University of Florida’s Student Health Center (the first WELL Platinum–certified higher education building in the U.S.) and Oregon State University – Cascades’ Edward J. Ray Hall prove that net-zero energy, WELL certification and renewable materials can all help these spaces flourish.
  • Our teams have created breakthrough workplaces like the Denver Federal Center’s Building 48, which transformed a former munitions plant into a LEED Gold, SITES Silver, net-zero energy and net-zero carbon building. Elsewhere, we partnered with LinkedIn to design a Toronto HQ that achieved both LEED and WELL Platinum certification and prioritizes environmental performance.

Across education buildings, workplaces, healthcare settings and more, CannonDesign's commitment to sustainable design is ever present.
  • Research buildings like the California Institute of Technology's Resnick Sustainability Center also make clear that sustainable building strategies like mass timber can work in even the most demanding, research-intensive building types. Moreover, the building is a makerspace for climate science.
  • In cities like St. Louis, we’re helping to update and advance citywide sustainability plans — from design recommendations to a comprehensive greenhouse gas inventory of municipal operations and more.
  • At both Michigan State University and University of California, Davis, we are designing plant sciences buildings focused on resilient agriculture and feeding our world.
  • We designed a network of neighborhood pools in Baltimore that significantly grow access to aquatics spaces and bring new opportunities for recreation, joy and wellness. The pools are a paragon for other cities to follow.
