We are thrilled to share that our Director of Sustainability Eric Corey Freed has been named Metropolis Magazine's 2026 Planet Positive Leader of the Year.
In his time at CannonDesign, Eric has fundamentally shifted our approach to sustainability — moving us toward a future where regenerative and restorative buildings are the standard. He has been pivotal to numerous accomplishments highlighted in our latest Sustainability Impact Report, including:
- We have achieved carbon neutrality in our business operations.
- We now have 379 LEED certified projects and counting
- Fortune Magazine named us to its most recent "Change the World List," citing our sustainability leadership as a key factor.
- TIME Magazine has called us the design firm making net-zero buildings a reality
Eric is actively leading sustainable projects with some of the most dynamic organizations of our time, including Mayo Clinic, the Alice L. Walton Foundation, the California Institute of Technology and numerous other health, science, education and commercial companies.
Eric has truly dedicated his career to being a trailblazer for the entire design profession when it comes to sustainable and regenerative design.
He has authored 13 books on sustainable building design and has delivered presentations on the topic in all 50 states and seven countries globally. He previously founded organicARCHITECT and has contributed to the design of more than 50 LEED and net zero projects while consulting teams on hundreds more.
Eric has also built a team at our company uniquely focused on both sustainable building design and building performance. This team is now 20+ employees working across sustainability visioning, climate and resiliency planning, energy and decarbonization, high-performance building design, renewable energy, embodied carbon and more.
This recognition from Metropolis is a proud moment for both Eric and our firm as we continue to advance the ideas, projects and concepts that can lead to a more sustainable, healthy and equitable future.
