Experiential Graphic Design

Experience is everything

A curved cobalt blue wall dominates the right side of an interior corridor, carrying a grid of framed photographic prints and illustrated panels in varied colors alongside white text reading "Building the Future One Block at a Time." Square moss installations are mounted between the panels and beside a natural wood door. To the left, a white wall displays bulletin boards and signage with the phrase "stay connected" in blue lettering. Several people walk through the corridor, some in motion blur. Linear LED lighting runs along the ceiling, tracing the curve of the blue wall. Wood-tone flooring extends the length of the space.

Our Experiential Graphics team turns environments into experiences. We design for connection and meaning. We ask questions, take risks, imagine boldly, refine obsessively and deliver with intention.

Using graphics, signage, technology, storytelling and art, we craft experiences that reinforce brand identity, celebrate an organization's culture and inform, inspire and connect people to place in profound ways.

We design impactful experiences across education, healthcare, sports, commercial and community environments.

Two adjacent food service stations occupy a dining hall interior with a dark exposed ceiling. On the left, a arched entry framed in red with bold floral graphics in yellow and purple carries a purple branded sign reading "Tikka Table," with neon light sculptures mounted above. The counter front features a quilted red panel with illuminated base lighting. On the right, a station with a blue fascia and white diamond-pattern graphics displays partial signage reading "Kali." A decorative tile-pattern graphic wraps its counter front. Queue barriers with stanchions define ordering lines at both stations. Several people stand at each counter. Polished terrazzo flooring reflects the overhead track lighting against the dark ceiling.

A full-height illustrated wall mural lines a corridor, depicting a woodland scene with stylized trees in peach and tan, soft blue cloud forms, an owl perched on a branch, a raccoon at the base of the trees, and purple foliage in the foreground. A person in teal scrubs and a lanyard walks alongside a child holding a stuffed animal, both guiding a wheeled medical stand along the corridor. Overhead wayfinding signage is mounted to the ceiling at a junction in the background. The floor is polished gray concrete and the ceiling features a recessed tile grid with circular downlights.

Signage & Wayfinding

A multi-story academic building photographed from street level features a large-scale supergraphic applied to its upper right facade — oversized white letterforms and a fragmented photographic image are printed directly onto the concrete panel surface, spanning multiple floors. Orange cladding accents punctuate the building's stepped massing between concrete panels and horizontal metal sun screen louvers. A central staircase with metal railings leads to an entry at mid-level, with a numbered building identifier visible at the entry. Several people walk across the plaza and on the stairs in the foreground. A connected building of similar material palette is visible to the right, partially screened by mature trees.

Functioning as spatial problem-solving tools, wayfinding and signage systems eliminate the confusion that can come with navigating the built environment. We design integrated systems and master plans that go beyond basic labeling to create unique solutions that help people find their way.

Exhibit & Interpretive Environments

A lounge space is defined by two distinct graphic wall treatments. On the left, a large white textured panel features a dimensional dot-pattern surface with oversized letterforms formed by variations in the dot relief, framed by a navy blue border. On the right, a solid red wall carries white stacked typographic text reading "We Are Scientists Innovators Engineers Researchers Doctors Makers Clinicians Thinkers," with a faint molecular graphic visible in the lower right corner. Four people work on laptops at lounge chairs and cafe-height tables throughout the space, and a fifth person stands facing the left wall. Seating includes red and wood-frame lounge chairs, a low round table, and white and red mobile cafe chairs. Gray tile flooring extends throughout.

Donor Recognition

A full-width donor recognition wall spans a large interior space, composed of hundreds of circular dimensional discs mounted at varying depths across white wall panels. The discs range in size and display macro photographic imagery in color groupings — warm reds, oranges and yellows on the left transitioning through greens in the center to blues and purples on the right. Donor names are printed on individual discs and on smaller flat circles interspersed throughout. Dimensional lettering identifying academic disciplines and Great Lakes names — including "Biology," "Mathematics," "Physics," "Lake Huron" and "Lake Erie" — is mounted directly to the wall surface between the disc clusters. An exposed brick soffit runs across the top of the wall. Three people are present: one seated on the floor using a laptop, two others walking in the foreground.

Donors are often the lifeblood of many public and private institutions, especially when it comes to new building projects. We work with organizations to honor their donors with artful recognition systems that show gratitude for the extraordinary things donors make possible, while fostering continued donor involvement. Our solutions are designed with flexibility and growth in mind, making it easy to recognize new stories, celebrate future donors, and reflect the ongoing life of an institution.
