Healthcare today reaches far beyond traditional hospital and clinical campuses. It is embedded in our homes, workplaces, communities and the technology we interact with every day.

We partner with leading health organizations around the globe to transform their care beyond buildings and address complex issues shaping healthcare: access, education, policy, community connection and more. We design for people and their full experiences, both within and beyond hospital walls. With heart, data and deep expertise, we’re not just designing spaces; we’re driving systemic change, creating impact and helping health organizations of all scales embrace and shape the future.

Sheppard Pratt Baltimore/Washington Behavioral Health Hospital
Inspired by its forested surroundings, Sheppard Pratt's new Baltimore/Washington Mental Health Campus creates a calming, welcoming space with courtyards and pathways that connect to surrounding nature while ensuring patient privacy and safety.
Kaiser Springfield
We designed a groundbreaking modular building system for Kaiser Permanente's medical office buildings, enabling swift responses to economic shifts, optimized resources and elevated patient care nationwide.

Community Health

Penn State Health, Hampden Medical Center
For many communities, both rural and urban, healthcare facilities are not just providers of medical care, but also are resources for mental, social and other vital forms of support. We work closely with community healthcare organizations and conduct in-depth interviews with the patients, loved ones and clinicians who rely on their facilities. Community healthcare must welcome a wide population and be able to understand and assist with their specific healthcare needs. This is done through empathetic listening, learning and collaboration throughout the design process, from start to finish.

Mental and Behavioral Health

University Of Washington Medicines Center For Behavioral Health And Learning
University of Washington Medicine's Center for Behavioral Health and Learning
To us, designing for mental well-being means looking beyond the treatment space and expanding our focus to include robust prevention, screening, outpatient, residential and other vital aspects of the mental healthcare spectrum. The impact of our solutions must permeate a broader, more complex ecosystem. We design mental healthcare spaces where hope is forged alongside compassionate care, dignity is reflected in the finest details and where well-being, in all its forms, is boldly rediscovered.

Pediatrics

A pediatric healthcare reception area features a sculptural white ceiling with organic curved edges from which dozens of glossy spheres in varied sizes hang in multicolored arrangements — including pink, red, blue, yellow, green and cream. Light wood wall panels line the corridor, which leads to a reception desk positioned in front of a bright orange accent wall bearing "Orthopedics" signage. A staff member stands behind the curved wood desk. Three visitors — two adults and a child being carried — approach the desk from the foreground. The terrazzo floor includes scattered circular color accents. A large circular wall medallion featuring a bear mascot logo is mounted on the left wall, with smaller circular graphic elements visible on the right.
Children today benefit from advanced healthcare but face growing challenges, including chronic illnesses, complex conditions and mental health crises. As leaders in pediatric healthcare design, we’ve created more children’s hospitals and healing environments over the past decade than any other firm in North America. Our work focuses on crafting sophisticated spaces that provide babies, children and families with a strong foundation for wellness while ensuring kids can still be kids.
