The Architect's Newspaper has released a thorough look at the design of Mount Sinai Medical Center's Irma and Norman Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The piece focuses heavily on the building's dynamic and undulating concrete facade which is both visually stunning and resilient in the face of extreme weather.

Our design team created computational models to not only create the signature curves of the building to also maximize replicability and the economy of the material. The concrete spandrels were custom made and shrink and expand along the facade to mimic the movement of water.

The rest of the piece features commentary from Arjun Bhat and Natalie Petzoldt as it unpacks the building's unique design, Art-Deco inspiration, resiliency and focus on patient and staff experience.

The patient’s physical and emotional journey is central to the facility’s interior planning, enabling intuitive movement throughout the building with limited logistical hiccups or delays. Additionally, it is designed with evolving technology in mind, easily able to flex and accommodate new imaging technologies or other patient amenities.

As the piece notes, a driving vision for the project was to "create an art museum that happens to be a hospital."

The design solution works hard to achieve this with dynamic architecture, human-focused interior spaces and numerous art pieces to help create a peaceful and serene setting.
