Brian Kaplan, AIA, LEED AP, has been named the Quality Leader for our global design practice. In this pivotal role, he’ll lead our quality team, oversee quality assurance and develop and implement rigorous standards and systems that continually elevate our firm's commitment to technical brilliance.

Brian is a registered architect who’s devoted his entire career to the technical execution of architecture and interiors. To him, quality isn’t just about policies and QA/QC. It’s about the meticulous attention to detail and the precision designers bring to every project they touch.

“Quality is all about craft. It’s the fusion of creativity and precision — from the careful selection of materials to the intricate drawing of every line in our plans and the execution of every fine detail in our work,” said Brian. “It’s about bringing intention and care to everything we do as a design firm.”

Quality is an all-present part of CannonDesign’s culture. Our quality team touches every project in our firm and they’re central to the ongoing training and development of our design staff. They also play a leading role in conducting technical reviews of our work at key points in our design process.

“Ensuring quality demands a critical eye towards all design decisions,” added Brian. “By fostering moments for reflection and review, our quality team embraces the role of discerning critics. This not only helps to validate the design choices our project teams make but can also uncover alternatives that may be worth exploring. It’s such an important part of the design journey.”

Prior to joining CannonDesign in 2021 as an Associate Director of Quality, Brian worked at several high-profile firms in New York City, including SOM where he operated the NYC studio’s quality program. He’s worked on projects of many types, from large-scale hospitals and research buildings to corporate workplaces, performing arts centers and nearly everything in between.
