This project transforms Edward Jones’ very first office building, a long-standing marker at the head of their corporate campus in St. Louis. The work included a comprehensive renovation and modernization of the building exterior along with design of a new connected parking garage. Together, these interventions go beyond a simple upgrade to redefine the experience of arrival, establishing a clear threshold that signals where the campus begins and what it represents today.
Architecturally, the existing horizontal of the original building massing was retained and clarified, while new vertical elements were introduced to relate the building to more recent campus development. Two new conference towers, one marking the north entry and the other anchoring the south mall, extend the architectural language found elsewhere on campus. These volumes act as visual counterpoints to the original structure, strengthening connections across the campus and reinforcing key moments of entry and gathering.
Material transformation plays a central role in the project. The original palette of beige glass, dense red brick pilasters and heavily weathered copper created dark interiors and limited access to daylight. The renovation lightens and refines this palette while preserving the expressive character of the copper, allowing the building’s history to remain legible.
A new four-level parking garage was introduced at the entrance to the business campus, accommodating more than 700 vehicles with capacity for future expansion. Positioned as part of the arrival sequence, the garage was designed as an architectural element rather than a purely utilitarian structure.
By creating a dialectic between the heaviness of the original building and the lightness of the new additions and insertions, the design reflects a company that is rooted in history while always looking towards the future.
